Katie Thann

Founder & Educator

Meet Katie, founder and educator of Earthly Beings. She is a wife, mother to two children and a qualified Primary School Teacher with over 10 years experience working with children. Katie has spent years in the energising presence of children and during this time she has learned the immense benefits of child-led autonomy and nature-based learning. She believes that children learn best in outdoor, unrestricted environments and that each child is uniquely precious and has much to offer this world.

Katie's love for outdoor, nature-based and holistic education that nurtures the whole child is the driving force behind Earthly Beings. As the Director and Facilitator, she wanted to create a program that puts child-led learning and play as well as developing a strong connection to self, others and Country for children at the forefront.

'The land is the real teacher. All we need as students is mindfulness"

Robin Wall Kimmerer - Braiding Sweetgrass

Through a Scienctific lens and activities that embed Aboriginal perspectives, children will develop a deep connection to Country and a strong sense of belonging. They will be learning real life skills in a setting where their minds and bodies can thrive in a safe and nurturing space.

Katie is deeply passionate about preserving our natural world and stewarding the land that we are on. She believes that young people need to get out and see nature, hear it and feel it to truly appreciate it and learn from it. If children are connected to the beauty and wonder of nature, they will develop a deep appreciation for it and preserve it for generations to come.

When she's not at Earthly Beings, you'll find Katie spending time with her beautiful family, soaking up the beauty and benefits of the outdoors. Whether gardening, at the beach, riding bikes in the bush, out on a boat, in the snow or bushwalking, Katie is passionate about spending time in nature.

Phoebe King

Meet Phoebe, our wonderful Bush Kindy Leader at Earthly Beings! Phoebe is passionate about connecting children with nature and creating a warm and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow.

What makes Earthly Beings so special to Phoebe is that it's a local family farm, where children can play and explore in a community-based setting. It's the perfect space for children to discover the world around them and form lasting connections with nature and each other.

Phoebe's love for working with children in a nature-focused environment began 12 years ago, and she's been hooked ever since. She enjoys watching children lead their own play, with nature as their guide and friend. For Phoebe, nature play is all about building resilience and awareness for Mother Earth, while creating wonder and excitement in a child's life.

When she's not busy with the Earthly Beings team, you'll find Phoebe at the beach, baking up yummy treats, practicing pilates, or spending time with her husband and their little one, Elvie. Phoebe lives a slow-living lifestyle filled with outdoor adventures and more time to focus on her family.

Phoebe is most looking forward to connecting with the children at Earthly Beings and creating lasting relationships.

Phoebe lives by the quote "Viva la Vida" famously quoted by Frida Kahlo. Her advice to all of us is to live and fill our cups with moments, people, and places that matter most to us.
